Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen friends and family getting more concerned with each passing day as the number of cases rise both internationally and in Singapore. Despite the extensive amount of information available on the internet, the list of questions about COVID-19 continued to grow. The mounting number of rumours, fake news and widespread misinformation(1) further exacerbated the uncertainty and anxiety that each one of us is facing. 

To close this gap, Doctor World has created a text chat service for our users to pose questions on COVID-19 matters to REAL medical professionals (not chatbots)! We have assembled a team of volunteer doctors, pharmacists and TCM physicians to address your questions on COVID-19 and dispel the misinformation out there. This way, you not only get the answers you need from reliable sources but a peace of mind too(2)!

Did I mention that you can use this text chat service AT NO COST AT ALL?!

Before its official launch, I had the chance to be among the first to test out the text chat service! I swear it could not have been more timely! I have been experiencing some pain in my throat for the past couple of days. I did not think that my situation warranted an official medical consultation, yet but I could not help but worry.

Here are some details on how the feature works and my experience using it:

For starters, you will need to download the Doctor World app from your app store and register for an account! With that, you are all set to go. 

Once you are on the Home Page, click on the floating “Live Chat” button located on the bottom right corner of your phone screen and select ANY of the medical professionals who are online to start on your chat session!

Begin the chat session by asking your first question and wait for a response. Once you receive your first response from your selected medical professional, a countdown timer will begin, allowing you to chat with him/her for up to 10 minutes.


When you are done with your session, the chat will be disabled and you will be able to provide feedback on your experience. 


In all honesty, I felt quite relieved when I was able to speak to a medical professional via the text chat service as I knew that I was getting qualified advice and answers to my concerns. The 10 minutes that I had was more than sufficient as the doctor I was speaking to responded promptly and even gave me tips on how to monitor my health this period. 

That said, we would like to highlight and clarify that this chat service does NOT constitute a medical consultation and it is strictly NOT for diagnosis and prescription. If you are feeling unwell, please consult a doctor. The teleconsultation service on the Doctor World app is available 24/7, so you can get access to timely medical attention in the comforts of your own home.
